Preliminary costume design for the McMaster Thespian Company's production of Oedipus Rex

The banana is a total inside joke with the company. I don't think they had bananas in Ancient Greece.

Haha, it's okay. It's pretty lame, though. Basically, the guy who played Creon is really fidgity, and he needed something to do with his hands on stage. One day during rehearsal he said, "I'm just going to eat a banana, okay?" And it stuck. In almost every scene he was eating some sort of fruit that probably didn't exist in Ancient Greece. There is only so much comic relief you can possibly put into a Greek Tragedy.
